Introduction to Glogster

These step by step directions will get you started with Glogster.

REGISTER
  1. Go to http://edu.glogster.com/
  2. Click on 'Register' at the top of the page
  3. You will be directed to a form.
  4. Fill out the form and then click Sign Up.

GLOGSTER DASHBOARD
When you first login you will always be directed to the Glogster Dashboard where you can edit your account information, add your photo, add students, manage classes, create a glog, upgrade to EDU Premium and more.

ADD NEW STUDENTS
The easiest way I have found to add an entire class is to do it through the Excel import feature (note: you would not do this if you only had one student to add). You will need Excel 2007 or 2010. (note: It says Excel 2003 works, but I haven't gotten it to).

  1. Click on "Add new students"
  2. If you want to just add 1 or 2 students, in the first box type in the number of students you want to add. Glogster automatically generates their username/password etc... and sends it to your email. This is a very time consuming process for an entire class.
  3. The BETTER way to add a class is to click on the second link "Download File", then click "OPEN" when the next dialog box appears.
  4. Excel opens. The first thing you need to do is enable the macros. (See image below) At the top of the page, where it says "Security Warning" Macros have been disabled, click on OPTIONS. Another box will appear (See below). Click on the radio button that says "Enable this content" and click "OK".

  1. Click on the glogster tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet.
  2. On this spreadsheet at the top click on 'login', you will be required to put your username and password in again.
  3. The spreadsheet should reappear, you are now ready to add your students. Enter in a nickname, first name and last name (or last initial), grade, gender and password. (I recommend using welcome 1, welcome 2 etc... for the passwords because they are easy to remember). Leave the last two fields blank. When you are finished click "IMPORT" and wait.
  4. A URL will appear in the 'first login field'. This is important because this is where the students will go to login their first time.
  5. Print the list.
INSPIRATION: LOOK AT OTHER GLOGS
Before you create a glog you are going to search through other glogs to see what other teachers/students have created. This will give you some insight as to what can be done. It is a good idea to look in your subject area. Click here http://edu.glogster.com/categories/

CREATE A GLOG
1. Click on Create a Glog on your dashboard.
2. Use the black tool box to create you Glogster. The tools are as follows
  • Graphics: like 'clip art' allows you to add pre-loaded graphics (some are animated)
  • Text: Text needs to be added like a graphic, it is a separate box for each block of text. Text can be plain or it can be in a design element
  • Image: images differ from graphics because they are images you load into the glog (from the internet or a camera)
  • Video: glogster allows you to search school tube for videos, you can also embed youtube into glogster through this button.
  • Sound: record sound for your glog.
  • Data: add documents (NOT AVAILABLE IN THE FREE VERSION)
  • Draw: draw elements (NOT AVAILABLE IN THE FREE VERSION)
  • Wall: change the background color or design.

The best thing to do is to just play around. Click on the existing elements and a toolbar will appear. The below image shows what appears when you click on a picture.
